Pearl Drum Set

A Pearl drum set is a great kit for both intro level drummers or advanced musicians. For those who are just beginning to play or are looking to buy their first kit, you may want to consider the Rhythm Traveler. The kit runs a little under $500. This set comes with two complete sets of heads. One for practicing (mesh) and one for live concert sound. The shells are only five inches deep so they are made for easy transporting. It also comes with a sixteen inch crash and fourteen inch high hats with stands for both. Guitar Center users give this set a four out of five stars. Problems include no resonant heads, cymbals are cheap and they are better left for practice use than for live shows.

This video shows you what the kit look and sound like. The second tom has the practice (mesh) head on it. Listen to the difference when he plays the mesh heads. This kit would be great for practicing in an area where noise could be an issue. The cymbals and shells look cheap, but if you are just beginning to play and don’t want to spend a lot of money, this could be a good route to take.

Video review of the kit. Great for tight spaces, but notice how the bass is up against the wall. Double bass can make these kits move around. Also, because there are no resonant heads, you’ll notice that he has duct tape spread all over his heads to muffle them. I’ve used this method myself, but do not put the tape in the middle of the head where you will be hitting it. Hitting it rips up the tape and it will stick to the end of your drumsticks.
