When it comes to a drum hardware bag, I have mixed emotions. I’d love to be able to fit all of my stands and stools into one bag, but I’m not sure how well they actually protect the gear. It seems to me that they are intended more for ease of hauling than actually keeping your gear in good shape. Add to this the fact that I have heard many drummers complain about their bags ripping under the strain of all the weight and I’m just not sure about.
However, drum cases are another story. The molded plastic holds up well under the pressure, and it can be easy to fit dividers into the case to prevent your wingnuts from poking into your drum throne. But, every drummer is different and your best bet is to do some research, check out the drum reviews and hope for the best.
If you do insist on a drum hardware bag, I would recommend getting one that has pull out handle and wheels. This will help ease the strain on the bag that comes from carrying it by the shoulder straps.
