Placing a custom bass drum head on your kit can be very expensive. Most drum head companies now offer custom heads that you can personalize, but personally, I think they charge way too much for them. There are also a few unique designs floating around online, but nothing is as sweet as making your own bass head. Check out my video below to learn how.
Pre-designed “Custom” Drum Heads
If you don’t want to take the time to make your own bass drumhead, there are pre-designed heads available. They usually show flames or skulls, or something along those lines. Check ’em out.
For those serious do-it-yourselfers out there or for those that can’t justify the price of custom bass heads, this video drum lesson is for you.
I originally put a Justin Beiber poster on my bass as a joke for a contest we were playing. I received such a good response from it though, that I have since been changing my poster at each show, (although the Beibs has made multiple appearances).
The drum heads in the video only cost me five bucks, and since then I’ve experimented with printing my own posters at office stores and using them. It cost a little more, but is still nothing compared to the price of professionally made heads. Most people can’t even tell it’s a poster until they ask me about it. It’s a great, inexpensive way to get yourself a custom bass drum head. Good luck and send me a picture when you’re done.
Some examples of the drum heads I’ve made. The Betty White one cost me a little over two dollars at the local office store. The Ghostbusters one I made out of construction paper for a Halloween show we did. It cost under a dollar for the paper. The Beibs was the most expensive at five bucks for the poster.
