Contents

Brazilian Drum Music captures the essence and flavor of the Brazilian culture it represents. It features multiple drum types such as the cuica, repinique, atabaque, zabumba, tamborim, tan-tan, surdo and caixa as well as smaller Brazilian percussion instruments like hand shakers. Often played in large groups also known as drum circles, it is a fascinating site to see. See other types of drums.

Some heavy metal bands include large groups of musicians playing traditional Brazilian instruments as part of their stage show. Sepultura’s album Chaos A.D. helped pave the way for other artists to blend the styles of metal and Brazilian drum music.

Brazilian Music

Notable artists within this genre such as Ney Rosauro and Akzel create wonderfully arranged solo material, while the more modern drum’n’ bass movement has produced unique sounds with Central American roots. Samba and Bossa Nova are probably the most popular forms of this style, while Frevo, Forro, and Sertanejo are lesser known but more popular at large events such as Carnival.
