Bass Tips

If you are considering buying a Double Bass Drumset, there are a few things that I would recommend. First, make sure you buy a bass shell that is at least eighteen inches deep. This will provide you with a much deeper bass sound than smaller shells. Eighteen inches is pretty much standard now on most new drums.

Also, if you have the money, I would recommend buying a bass shell that does not have toms mounted to it. It will be more expensive, but I hear drummers on various forums say how much they have loved the switch from tom-mounted drums to “free-floating” drums.

Why? The holes that are put into the bass shell for the tom-mounting systems, diminish the sound of the drums. The same also applies to toms. If you can afford to, buy them with mount systems that do not penetrate the drums. One musician said that he mounts his toms on two snare stands.

So you have a sweet sounding 18 by 22 inch bass, but now you need the right pedal. Before you purchase one, make sure you know a little bit about how they differ.
