Inside The Free Drum Lessons

If you haven’t already checked out the lessons, here’s what you’ll find in each section:

Beginner Lessons:These are going to start from the beginning.  I’ll introduce you to the parts of the drums, show you how to hold drum sticks, how to read drum music, and show you some basic drum beats.

Advanced:I’m going to assume you’ve been playing drums for a while.  These lessons will cover various techniques to improve your speed and/or efficiency around the drum set.  I’ll also get into modifying beats, fills, and solos.

Bass Drums:I’ll cover everything from changing heads and tuning the bass to customizing your pedal and different foot techniques.

Bongo:You’ll learn the parts of the bongo, how to create different tones, and some basic bongo rhythms.

Djembe:Pretty much covers the same topics as the bongo lessons do, but they’re applied to the djembe–tones, rhythms, and beats.

Drum Beats:How to modify beats to create new ones and apply them to the drumset.  You can also find books full of beats and patterns.

Drum Heads:Learn how to change and seat broken drumheads, how to maintain parts (rims, lugs) and how to easily create your own custom heads.

History:A short timeline covering some major developments in the world of drumming.  You can add to it as well.

Drum Shells:Here I’ll teach you how shell types (maple, birch, steel, brass, etc…) can affect the sound.  I’ll also touch on topics like bearing edges, wraps and finishes, as well as caring for your shells.

Drum Sticks:I’ll help you with how to choose drum sticks, explain the various sizes and bead tips, show a couple grips, and even show you how to add some flair to your drumming with some stick tricks.

Reading Music:Learn how to read drum sheet music–note values, counting beats, time signatures, and more.

Snare Drum:The snare is where I recommend new drummers begin learning how to play the drums.  I cover simple to advanced stickings, developing limb independence, snare maintenance (changing wires, heads, throws), and much more.

Techniques:Learn a few ways that can improve your speed and stick control.

Tuning Drums:I’ll show you how to tune your drums, different methods and tools you can use, and how to solve some common problems like snare buzz and ringing.

Drum Rudiments:I’ll show you how to play the 26 essential drum rudiments, many variations of them, and the International rudiments too.  You’ll learn how to apply rudiments to the drum set for fills and solo work.

World Instruments:In these free drum lessons, I cover unique drums from around the world like the Klong Yao, Bodhran, and Kanjira to name a few.
