Bongo Bags

Contents

These are quite a few different bongo bags available on the market right now. I want to highlight a couple of them below and try to hash out some of the advantages that some options offer you over other models.

The entry level bags from LP (shown above) feature quilted foam padding to protect and cradle your bongos. There is also a cowbell pouch for carrying a cowbell and beater. Comes with a removable shoulder strap, carrying handle and double sided zipper.

For those who transport their bongo back and forth quite a bit, you might consider these professional level bongo bags. They are lightweight yet very durable. Their steel frame construction and reinforced padded nylon offer a little more protection from the abuse that comes from hauling gear around. It also comes with a large external pocket and a wide, comfortable shoulder strap.

Be sure you get the exact measurements of your bongo set. You don’t want to end up with one of these Nino bags for your professional level bongo drums. MAKE SURE IT WILL FIT!!!

How To Choose Bags

While padded bags do a fine job of keeping your gear safe, I would highly recommend getting a bongo case instead. They offer the same foam lined padding as the bags do, but the thick plastic shell adds another layer of protection. If you have a lower end bongo set, the thinner shells could benefit from the protection that a molded plastic case offers. And, if you have a higher end set, then you’re going to want to give them the best you can.

One advantage of the bags though, is that many of them include accessory pouches that let you put tuning wrenches, lugs, or whatever other small drumming gear you may need inside them. You could also do this with a case, but they are just going to be jostled around inside, knicking and scraping your precious bongo shells. Some, may come with a small lined pouch on the inside, but you’re still better off with a zippered side pouch that keeps all you extras away from the shells.
